Catalytic activity measurements

Flow type and batch type reactors

High pressure reactors conbined with gas chromatgraphies (FID and TCD) enable us to evaluate catalytic activities for CO2 conversion and so on.

Potentio/galvanostat

We have three desital potentio/galvanostats and one analogue potentio/galvanostat. The desital ones are used for usual evaluations of catalysts for oxygen reduction reactions. The analogue one is combined with a DAQ board which can be synchronized with the other spectrometers.

Model surface measurements

Supersonic molecular beam sources

We have two supersonic molecular beam sources for investigation of the surface dynamics of chemical reactions. The vacuum chambers for the beam source also have basic surface science instruments for LEED, TPD, IRAS.

Scanning tunneling microsopes

There are four scanning microscopes. They measure atomic scale structures and electronic structures of model surfaces. We also try to develop new spectroscopies with STMs.

Spectrometers for catalysts

X-ray photoemission spectrometer

We frequently use XPS to evaluate surface compositions and electronic structures of both of the practical and model catalysts.

Microscopic Raman spectrometer

This instrument can obtain micrometer-order spectra for gas phase and electrochemical catalysts in in-situ conditions.

Foulier-transform infrared spectrometers

Two IR systems are optimised for in-situ measurements for catalysts with transparent and diffuse scattering arrangements. The latter one can investigate gas phase reactions as well as electrochemical reactions.

Thermal desorption spectrometer for powders

Desorption energy and overall sticking coefficients are measured with the instrument.

Others

We have basic facilities for synthesis. Catalysts for gas phase and electrochemical reactions are fabricated daily.
Machine tools such as a milling cutter and a band saws are in our laboratory. They are used for improvements and development of instruments.
